Lemper

Today, Zila brought a container-full of lemper, a Jawa dish made of glutinous rice.  It is filled with serunding udang ( prawn floss ), flavored only with jintan putih ( cumin, powdered seeds of Cuminum cyminum ) and serbuk lada hitam ( black pepper powder, Piper nigrum ), wrapped in banana leaf. 




The taste is somehow similar to a close variant, pulut panggang ( grilled glutinous rice ), which is cylindrical, 3cm Æ x 10cm length.  Lemper is bite-size, cubical, about 4cm length x 4cm width x 2.5cm height, and is cooked in boiled water.

Cari Makan @ Rawang - 兰姐清蒸非洲鱼

久闻兰姐的清蒸非洲鱼许多年。Connie 却说没什么特别好吃,都没带我去吃。有一次去了,人太多,不愿久等。

终于有一次,我跟大伙儿们去。经历千山万水,总算吃到了。

人就是那么奇怪。吃不到时,则日想夜想着要吃。有一天给吃到了,却意见一箩箩。

听人家说,去的人都是一人一条非洲鱼。听起来蛮吓人!
终于自己有机会大饱口福了!四个大男人,四个小饭,一个油麦,两条非洲鱼。一辣、一不辣。

吃了。原来,不过如此。

生姜、蒜头剁碎,撒在非洲鱼上清蒸。好辣的可撒上青辣椒仔,或少放,或不放。
不过我比较喜欢姜蓉。再说兰姐也把非洲鱼卖太贵了,本钱还不到三成吧!太好赚了!

大家还是别给兰姐拦截、拦劫了!

沙登是华人区,通街美食。

有一间板面档,挺不错下。
人多却无需久等。原来炉子开了十几个,很明显老板管理有方,是个Restaurant City高手!!!

虽然没有Ho Chak! 宣传,档子依然客似云来。

汤水清甜。我每次都喝到完。
国豪每次一边吃,一边抹汗,一边赞好!

Pisang Tanduk Goreng





































My mother loves pisang goreng, i.e. banana fritters.  Basically all kind of banana can be made into fritters, be it the sweet dessert banana, or a bland plantain.

Pisang goreng is best having for afternoon tea.  The best banana for goreng is probably pisang tanduk.  Tanduk means ‘horn’ in English, referring to its big size, resembling a bull’s horn. Thus its named 牛角蕉 in Hokkien dialect, literally means ‘bull’s horn banana’.



Normally a ripe pisang tanduk is used for making pisang goreng.   
After peeling  the pisang tanduk, it is cut at 45° into 10cm thick slices.  


It is then coated with batter and deep-fried.


A nicely done pisang goreng tanduk should have a nice crispy, golden batter outside; and steaming-hot, soft, sweet banana inside.

Now Everyone Can Fry . . . Baked Beans with Egg


罐头红豆 ( Baked beans ) 是 navy bean ( 又称 white bean, haricot bean 等 ),是 Phaseolus vulgaris 一品种。原是乳白色,经茄汁煨炖后,方成红色。

罐头红豆可即食。不过,加热后较好下饭。

首先,先煎熟一或两粒鸡蛋。然后倒入一罐红豆,微炒。煮沸后即可。不必加盐、味精。不过可随个人口味加入辣椒,咖啡精,威士忌,洋葱,九层塔等。

人人可煮!


当归苋菜汤



苋菜,江鱼仔洗净备用。
蒜头剁碎,爆香。微炒江鱼仔,加入一大碗水或高汤。
下数片当归,小火微熬数分至出味。加苋菜,微滚。
食盐、味精调味即可。
