Labu Masak Lemak




Ingredient :
1. A lot of pumpkin ( the main ingredient labu )
2. A whole packet of powdered coconut milk ( that's the lemak )
3. A bit of powdered anchovies for flavoring
4. A lot of chili for the hot sensasion
5. A bit of turmeric powder for the yellowish colour
6. A bit of garlic, 
sautéd till perfection.
7. A bit of salt. to taste

腌酸辣南瓜 Pickled Pumpkin





1.南瓜切片
2.南瓜片浸盐水20分钟
3.去掉盐水,冷水洗净
4 辣椒、话梅、柠檬汁搅拌即可马上食用

Labu Masak Lemak



Ingredients :
1. pumpkin
2. coconut milk, 65ml
3. Sarawak smoked prawn, a.ka. kupas tigah
4. garlic, 5 cloves
5. chili, 2 piece
6. curry powder


First, wash the pumpkin thoroughly, cut into wedges and remove the seeds.  Keep aside.

In a claypot, heat up some cooking oil.  Then put in the kupas tigah, garlic and chili.  Keep heating until the kupas tigah's strong aroma is released, as well as the fragrant of garlic and the chili hot smell fill the kitchen.  Add in the curry powder and stir well.  That will get all the attention. :)  

Put in all the pumpkin, fill the water till full.  Turn on the fire, full throttle.  Once the water boil, add in the coconut milk, and turn down the fire.  Shimmer till the water reduced.

Serve hot.

Pumpkin Rice 金瓜饭



First, mince 5 cloves of garlic and 100g  pork.  Then, cut half pumpkin into 2cmx2cm cubes.  Cook rice separately.

Heat up the wok, first sauté the garlic, then the minced pork.   
Put in all the cubed pumpkin, stir a bit.  Pour in water to cover the pumpkin, when the water is boil, reduce to middle flame.

Simmer the pumpkin till the water is reduced.  By then, the pumpkin should had softened and cooked.  Add in a generous amount of salt and pepper to taste.  Turn off the stove.

Add in the cooked rice into the wok, stir to mix.


It’s a bit sticky, yet deliciously sweet and savory.  Can have it on its own, as a single dish meal, or have it with other dish.  
Best to serve hot.

Ongrizinal Baked Pumpkin


pumpkin, thinly sliced to 3 or 4 slices.

Preheat the oven at 150°C.
Add a bit of olive oil on pan.  Lay the pumpkin slices nicely.
Heat for about 30 minutes.

Serve hot.


Serving for 1 pax.

炒金瓜 Stir-fried Pumpkin


Cooking of pumpkin is something tricky. 

First, the pumpkin need to be cut into uniform size.   Uneven sizes may result in uneven cooking.
Secondly, the pumpkin must not be overcooked.  Overcooked pumpkin tends to be softened and pulpy.  It should be just nicely cooked.  Soft, yet still retain the chunkiness.
Third, pumpkin itself is a sweet fruit.  Turning a sweet fruit into a savory dish is not as simple as adding salt.  I don’t know, but sometimes it taste more like a dessert.

南瓜糖水 Pumpkin Tongsui - Experimental Cooking




Ingredients :

1. Pumpkin, skinned, in chunk, 1kg
2. 2 liter water
3. 100g  pearl tsagu
4. sugar, 4 table spoon


First, cook the pumpkin in the water till they are cooked and softened.  Add in the sugar.
Meanwhile, in another smaller pot, boil the pearl sagu till they turned translucent. ( see smaller picture )

Puree the cooked pumpkin with a food processor. 
Add in the pearl sagu.  Stir to mix well.

Serve hot.

Labu Masak Lemak Cili Api - Pumpkin in Coconut Milk

This is a Malay dish : pumpkin cook in coconut milk, extra-kicked with chilli pepper.  Almost anything can be prepared lemak-style, mostly vege-dishes. 



The recipe is simple . . .

First, I saute some garlic and shallot, then I add in some chilli pepper, pounded dried prawn and minced chicken.  Next, I put in all the diced pumpkin.  Stirfry a bit before add in the coconut milk. Simmer till the pumpkin softened.  Add salt to taste.

Serve hot with rice.

Stir-fried Pumpkin 炒金瓜



Ingredient :
1. 400g of pumpkin, ( labu manis / labu lemak /南瓜 / 金瓜 ) mature fruit of Cucurbita maxima,  diced
2. some pork / chicken meat, minced
3. some dried prawn, minced
4. some garlic, minced

Method :
1. saute garlic first,
2. add in the dried prawn, stirfry till aromatic,
3. add in all the meat, saute a while
4. put all the pumpkin, stirfry a bit, add in water, simmer till softened
5. drizzle a little of granualar sugar for a little bit of caramelization
6. salt and pepper to taste.
